Sometimes the Dream is bigger than you can imagine!
I'll bet at sometime in your life, if not right now, you have gotten all fired up about a "great" idea or made a decision to "change" something in your life to only circle back to the same place you were before you got all fired up. Why? Because all you can imagine is the big picture but you can't seem to imagine how or even where to start.
When it comes to your dreams your "circle of reality" is today just as it has always been and looks like it always will be. You just can't imagine where to start... so you don't. Are ya with me so far? Am I describing anything familiar?
Now we have all been to seminars, read books, listened to audio recordings or in some other way heard all about what it takes to change something in your life. AND It all works doesn't it? For a while, then again you find yourself back in the same place you were before started it all to begin with. Sometimes change is just too difficult to fit in with your life as you know it. So what do you do about that?!
Let me share with you a true story:
I was listening to a co worker talk about how much his back and hands hurt because he had a load of gravel delivered for his driveway and instead of spreading it out they accidentally just dumped it all in one big pile. That left him having to spread out that large pile of gravel by himself with only a hand shovel. Good lawd my back and hands were hurting just thinking about such a tremendous task! He said he goes out each night after work, and moves one shovel full at a time. He went on to say that it was taking a lot less time than he originally thought it would take.
That brought to mind an old saying I had heard most of my life. (I have no idea where it came from or who said it, so no credits here. Ha!).
"How do you eat an elephant? .... One bite at a time!"
Even though moving that large pile of gravel with just a shovel, like eating an elephant, seemed like a HUGE task when he looked at the big pile of gravel thinking that he had to move that whole pile, when he simply dug into it...one shovel full at a time, that huge task became smaller and smaller with every shovel he moved.
Change does not happen all at once nor does it have to be difficult !
If real change is going to happen in your life it must be done, or at least started as something that you can do relatively easy and see some result so that you will feel motivated to continue moving forward. Even making one, seemingly insignificant change, if done everyday will add up over time.
Small changes to habits that might seem so insignificant that you hardly noticed the change at all will result in BIG changes when looked back on several months later. I imaging that the first shovel full of gravel, or even the tenth, didn't even look like it made a difference to that huge pile of gravel but soon enough he began to see a real difference in the size of that pile.
Just by taking small steps, soon enough you will see those habits that kept you in the same place every day begin to disappear and those little changes that looked so small in the beginning become a bigger and bigger. Before long you will begin to feel like those dreams are completely achievable. You will begin to believe that you can overcome anything and not dream is too big.
So whether is taking off a few pounds, or starting that new dream business you've always wanted, nothing will ever happen if you don't start moving towards it ...One Bite at a Time!
